This is the problem when Ivy League MBA nerds that grew up in downtown Chicago or New York make design decisions on these trucks based on bean counter input. Plastic is a couple bucks cheaper and surely no one will notice warped cover doors in the middle of a glass smooth bed. Fiberglass doors?.no way, that would be 12 extra dollars unit tal doors?.HELL no, that would be a whole 25 extra dollars in unit cost. To save a nickle they will half a$$ an option on a $65K+ truck. Options like this are my pet peeve with these trucks and Ram, Ford, and GM all do it. If they are that way from the factory, it will get worse. My local Ram dealer has a couple of dozen HD trucks on the lot with the option and all of them have a wavy/warped appearance when you look down the side of the truck. I liked the Rambox option until I saw it in person.Ĭool design, but, the doors/covers appear to made of cheap injected molded plastic. Now, if they would come out with a long bed rambox made from steel, and leave room in the front for an overhanging chest box, theyd really have something there!

Would I have a Rambox if my truck were only for pleasure? Yes I would for sure. However, it wouldnt work for me as a work truck. Dont get me wrong, I wish I could use it because I think they are super cool and I did drive one with it for several days to see if it would work for me.

I would also think that the rambox would not stand up to the abuse that a standard steel bed would, but I cant say for sure on that. If you get a Rambox, and then get a in-bed chest box (because you cant do an over the railbox), then you have no bed space. The rambox will not hold large tools like a normal chest box will. Reasons for me were first off, you can not mount a ladder rack in the bed with a Rambox without major modifications and there is no option for a rail mounted rack. I would have loved to have had it but for what I use my truck for, I could not.
